Why Puppy Classes

Puppies go through optimal socialization and learning at a young age. It is crucial that you take advantage of this period to socialize your puppy to a variety of environmental challenges, teach him or her basic commands, and help your puppy learn good manners.

Puppies have a lot to learn. They need your gentle guidance to become well-mannered members of your family. Our classes give you the tools you need to create a confident, well-socialized pet.

Any puppy between the ages of 8 and 24 weeks and their family are welcome to attend (please come prepared to supervise your younger children).

Through positive reinforcement, our goals for you and your puppy will be to encourage your puppy to build solid social skills, while learning to interact appropriately with other dogs and people. You and your puppy will learn basic commands (sit, down, stay, come) and leash manners. We will also address common puppy problems such as housebreaking, jumping, barking and biting.

Puppy Class will meet from 6:30 to 7:30pm on Tuesday evenings in the Morris Animal Hospital lobby. There is a total of six classes, and puppies can join the class at any point during the six-week rotation. Fees for the six-week course are $175. Payment is required prior to starting class, and registration is limited to five puppies per class. Fees are non-refundable.

What to Bring

One hungry puppy! We provide and recommend Cheerios for training treats. If your pet favors another treat, feel free to bring it to class! Please bring your puppy on a collar, leash, harness, or Gentle Leader (no choke or prong collars). Treat training pouches that you can wear are helpful too!

Requirements

Puppies must be healthy, have proof of recent veterinary examination, and have proof of at least one DHLPP and Bordetella vaccine administered by a veterinarian at least 7 days prior to class. Proof of Rabies vaccination is required if your puppy is 12 weeks or older.

About Our Instructors

Jacque Rappelli, RVT

Jacque graduated from Brown Mackie College in 2013 after completion of her Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. Jacque has been working in the veterinary field since 2008. Her special interests include strengthening the human-animal bond with training, behavior, and nursing care. She has three dogs; a Great Dane (Eleanor), a Chihuahua (Zia), and a Toy Fox Terrier (Polkadot). When she is not at work she enjoys spending time traveling, especially to the National Parks.

Tiffinee Newcomer, RVT

Tiffinee graduated from Brown Mackie College in 2013 after completion of her Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. Her special interests include behavior, training, and anesthesia. She has been working in the veterinary field since 2010. When she is not at work she enjoys spending time with her son, and kitties Batman and Bat Girl.
