Abdominal Ultrasounds

We offer abdominal ultrasounds performed by Dr. Gayle O’Konski, an experienced veterinary ultrasonographer. Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging tool that provides real-time images of your pet’s internal organs without the use of radiation. It can help identify abnormalities that may not be visible on radiographs and allows for detailed evaluation of organs such as the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, adrenal glands, spleen, bladder, pancreas, and gastrointestinal tract.

Abdominal ultrasounds are available for both current and new patients of Morris Animal Hospital, and we also welcome referrals from other veterinary hospitals. Following the ultrasound, our team will review the findings with you and discuss any recommended next steps, including additional diagnostics, treatment options, or monitoring. For referred patients, all images and a detailed report of the findings are sent directly to the referring veterinarian so they can continue your pet’s care.

In some cases, Dr. Gayle may recommend ultrasound-guided aspirates or tissue sampling to gather additional diagnostic information. When appropriate, these procedures can be performed during the same visit.

Your pet will be admitted in the morning for their ultrasound appointment and will be ready to go home later that day. To ensure the highest-quality images, the fur on the lower abdomen will be shaved. Some sedation may be administered when appropriate to help your pet remain comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure.

Once the ultrasound has been completed, a member of our team will contact you with an update on how your pet did and provide an anticipated pickup time. Your pet will be monitored closely as they recover. If sedation was used, the reversal medication helps facilitate a smooth recovery so your pet can return home as soon as it is safe to do so.

If you have questions about whether an abdominal ultrasound may benefit your pet or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact our team. We are happy to help.
